In September 1982, "KatNic's" opened as a Sandwich Shop.
Later, they added tables to offer FULL-SERVICE dining and has evolved to what we now know as the "Bar of the Locals" called KA'TIKI with LIVE MUSIC 7 days a week!
Owners Kathi & Fred Stern added the now signature "CHICKEE" roof. A little known Florida statute exempts "chickees" built by the Seminole Tribe or the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians, from compliance with Florida building codes. A chickee is an open-sided wooden hut that has a thatched roof or palmetto or other traditional materials. It's a tiki hut, in plain American-Polynesian English, and very popular with locals and visitors.
For Ka'tiki owners Fred and Kathi Stern, the law made perfect sense: Hire the best builders from the tribe and expand the sunset beach bar with an authentic Native Floridian chickee - an intricately beautiful work weaving art and engineering. Bistro tables and an expanded bar was built by walter reitmann, an extremely talented carpenter and husband of dayshift bartender nancy reitmann. (like the tribes, there should be a florida statute exempting walter's austrian-born artistic carpentry. it's just that good).
KA'TIKI is also known for our ANNUAL CHILI COOKOFF and the Memorial Day Celebration and Stroll honoring the Vets.

This is a place where everyone is special and everyone is family !
